Revolutionize Tradition

For nearly 30 years, EAMA has taught the craft of music. Inspired by the teachings of Nadia Boulanger, we provide the “hammer and nails” for composers, chamber musicians, conductors, and music educators to thrive. With these tools, connect to an evolving tradition and create your own unique musical voice.

Lasser’s unique and brilliant application of counterpoint — both as a composer and a teacher — profoundly changed the way I think about music.

The Summer Institute

The 2025 EAMA Summer Institute runs from July 1st to 30th in Paris, France. In tandem with your program, attend core classes such as Counterpoint, Keyboard Harmony, Musicianship, and Analysis. Participate in various masterclasses and concerts. Each program has additional specialized classes to further deepen your study.

Our programs:

Composition Program

Directed by Philip Lasser

Students work closely with faculty in a studio setting and present works in all stages of formation in small group seminars.

Distinct from private composition lessons, these studio classes – drawing directly from your work – focus on critical issues of serious compositional discourse such as texture, elegance, and form.

Music Pedagogy Program

Directed by Dr. Kyle Blaha

This program offers music educators, music theorists, composers, and performers the unique opportunity to explore in depth the core crafts of music: musicianship, counterpoint, and keyboard harmony.

With a deeper understanding of the various approaches to these topics, students unlock their inner ear as they continue their development all while learning how to teach these essential skills to various levels.

Conducting Program

Directed by Mark Shapiro

Focus on deep score analysis: hearing with understanding. Our integrated approach is designed to help you achieve practical mastery in real-life conducting situations.

Learn how keener musical perception can be generative of gesture, giving you richness, flexibility, and control. Work closely with small instrumental ensembles, chamber musicians, and choirs.

Chamber Music Program

Directed by Emile Naumoff

Work with master pianist, teacher, and composer Emile Naoumoff. Gain mastery of chamber music with an emphasis on French repertoire while discovering your inner ear. One of the last disciples of Nadia Boulanger, Emile Naoumoff brings to our program his breadth of knowledge and profound understanding of the musical world.
